SOCIAL ANXIETY DAN ONLINE SELF-DISCLOSURE PADA MAHASISWA PENGGUNA TWITTER/X

Abstrak - Mahasiswa berada dalam tahapan usia emerging adulthood yang memiliki tugas perkembangan untuk menjalin relasi. Dalam usahanya menjalin relasi, mahasiswa menggunakan aplikasi media sosial seperti Twitter/X. Selain untuk menjalin relasi, mahasiswa juga melakukan pengungkapan diri berupa curhatan, mengungkapkan emosi dan opini yang ada pada dirinya di Twitter/X. Perilaku pengungkapan diri mahasiswa di media sosial disebut online self-disclosure. Mahasiswa menggunakan Twitter/X dikarenakan terdapat fitur untuk mengunggah tulisan, foto atau video, maka penggunaannya oleh mahasiswa juga dapat memfasilitasi proses keterbukaan dirinya. Seseorang melakukan SD dapat dipengaruhi rasa cemas dan takut ketika mendapat evaluasi negatif dari orang lain yang disebut sebagai social anxiety. Perasaan takut ditolak akan muncul ketika hal yang diungkapkan tidak disukai oleh orang lain yang merupakan gambaran dari social anxiety. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji hubungan antara social anxiety dengan online self-disclosure pada mahasiswa pengguna Twitter/X. Pengambilan data menggunakan metode incidental sampling dan didapatkan sebanyak 165 mahasiswa pengguna Twitter/X. Variabel online self-disclosure diukur menggunakan General Disclosiveness Scale milik Gibbs et al. (2006) dan variabel social anxiety diukur menggunakan Interaction Anxiousness Scale milik Leary (1983). Hasil uji hipotesis menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada hubungan yang signifikan antara social anxiety dengan online self-disclosure pada mahasiswa pengguna Twitter/X (r = 0.035; p = 0.519; p > 0.05). Sebagian besar responden memiliki tingkat online self-disclosure pada kategori sedang (51.5%) sedangkan pada variabel social anxiety sebagian besar responden berada pada kategori sedang-tinggi (40.6%). Kata Kunci: online self-disclosure, social anxiety, mahasiswa, Twitter/X, emerging adulthoodAbstract – University students who are in the emerging adulthood stage is a critical period where individuals focus on developing social connections and forming significant relationships. In their effort to establish relationships, students use social media platforms like Twitter/X. Students engage in self-disclosure by sharing personal stories, expressing emotions, and sharing opinions on Twitter/X. This behavior of students disclosing personal information on social media is known as online self-disclosure. Students use Twitter/X because it has features that allow users to upload text, photos, or videos, which can facilitate their self-expression. The act of self-disclosure can be influenced by feelings of anxiety and fear of negative evaluation from others, known as social anxiety. The fear of rejection may arise when the content shared is not well-received by others, indicating the presence of social anxiety. This study aims to examine the relationship between social anxiety and online self-disclosure among students who use Twitter/X. Data was collected using incidental sampling and there were 165 respondents who use Twitter/X. The online self-disclosure variable was measured using the General Disclosiveness Scale by Gibbs et al. (2006), while the social anxiety variable was measured using the Interaction Anxiousness Scale by Leary (1983). The results revealed no significant correlation between social anxiety and online self-disclosure among college students using Twitter/X (r = 0.035; p = 0.519; p > 0.05).
