It can also increase national pride, encourage sports participation, and promote cultural exchange. However, there are also significant financial risks, as costs often exceed budgets, leading to long-term debt for host cities and countries.</span></p> <p><span>This paper looks at the history of the modern Olympics and analyzes whether hosting the event is beneficial or harmful for the host city and nation. It covers the financial, social, and cultural impacts of hosting the Olympics. The paper highlights successful examples like the 1984 Los Angeles Games, which made a profit of $215 million, and cautionary tales like the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, which had a cost overrun of 352%.</span></p> <p><span>The analysis suggests that while the Olympics can bring benefits, cities must carefully consider the potential rewards against the significant risks and challenges.
