DEVELOPMENT OF HIKING ROUTES USING GIS TECHNOLOGIES
View through CrossRef
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have revolutionized the process of creating hiking routes by offering precise and interactive mapping capabilities. GIS enables the integration and merging of various types of data, enhancing the planning process of routes and ensuring accurate mapping. The use of GIS is crucial for the development of hiking routes, as it allows for the analysis of terrain, elevation features, and accessibility, all of which are essential for ensuring the safety and optimization of the route. Everything becomes visually understandable through GIS.
Although not widely used in Armenia, GIS has been successfully applied by developed countries to improve hiking routes and optimize trail management, demonstrating its effectiveness within various programs.
By presenting an example of a hiking route created using GIS from the Vayots Dzor region of Armenia, the article illustrates how GIS can effectively enhance the planning, design, and implementation of hiking routes.
