Aristotle vs Descartes: Ernesto Grassi and the Humanist Tradition
The mannerist treaties which furnish the German language philosopher Ernesto Grassi with his matter in "La mania ingegnosa" owe a great deal to Aristotle as defender of poetry and ingenious artistry. This reveals aspects of the mannerists, of Renaissance readings of Aristotle, and of Aristotle himself, usually forgotten within a French critical tradition dominated by Cartesianism.
