View through Europeana Collections
The digital print is the result of the digital application project Game of Fortune, which is similar to the gambling games "slot machine", "fruit machines", etc. In the first column of the digital game-app "rolls" edited photographs of works by famous painters, while in the second column portraits of famous thinkers of the 19th and 20th centuries. The player-user of the application presses the start button of the game and the images start to roll until they end up in a random combination of the previous images, which is displayed in the third column of the screen. If the user is satisfied with the randomly generated combination of images, they proceed with printing, resulting in a unique artwork signed by the artist on A4 archival paper. In this particular artwork, the portrait of Walter Benjamin (a German literary critic, philosopher, translator, radio producer, and essayist) coexists with the artwork of the American painter and printmaker Edward Hopper.
