Xanthogranulomatous Cholecystitis: An Unusual form of Chronic Cholecystitis

A BSTRACT Patients with gallbladder diseases, such as acute cholecystitis, chronic cholecystitis, cholelithiasis, and Mirizzi syndrome, are seen very commonly. Xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis (XGC) is a rare form of chronic cholecystitis, characterized by xanthogranulomatous inflammation of the gallbladder. In our case, a 46-year-old woman came to the hospital with complaints of pain in the right hypochondrium. She was diagnosed as chronic calculus cholecystitis and open cholecystectomy was performed, an excised gallbladder was sent for histopathological examination, which was diagnosed as xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis.
