View through CrossRef
The aim of our study was to contribute to improving the management of colon volvulus pelvic at the national hospital Ignace DEEN. Material and methods: it was a study retrospective going from January 1st of 2020 to December 31, 2021 including patients hospitalized and operated on for a volvulus of the pelvic colon and having by an ideal colectomy. The variables were sociodemographic, clinical, therapeutic and evolutionary. Results: We collected a total of 87 cases of pelvic colon volvulus without necrosis, representing 2.65% of abdominal surgical emergencies. The average age was 40.5 years. There were 63 men and 24 women. History of chronic constipation with a notion of sub occlusion was found at 91.95% of cases. The cessation of materials and gases and abdominal meteorism were found in all cases. Plain abdominal radiography was performed in all patients. The operative gestures were left hemicolectomy in 78 patients (89.65%) and sigmoidectomy in 9 patients (10.35%) all followed by immediate anastomosis. We recorded a mortality rate of 5.26%. Conclusion: Sigmoid colon volvulus is a relatively common medical-surgical emergency in our context. It has been the subject of multiple studies in our department where for many years the practice has been ideal colectomy. Keywords : Colectomy, pelvic colon volvulus, Conakry.
