BLAJINII: MIT SAU REALITATE

Blajinii are mythical representations shrouded under the tutelage of mystery. The boundary between myth and reality is fragile. The real plan blends with the mythical one. It is believed that Blajinii are either demigods, supernatural mythical beings, or spiritually evolved humans. Regardless of the Thracian-Dacian or Slavic substratum, the regional names (abioi, albi, blajini, rocmani, rohmani, rugmani, urici) attest the cognition of these mythical entities by our ancestors on the territory of our country since ancient times. Blajinii have remained present in the collective memory. During the spring equinox (Easter) and the winter solstice (Christmas), the ritual practice proves to be complex. So, on Christmas, walnut shells are thrown into the river, and on Easter, red eggshells. These reach Apa Sâmbetei (Saturday Water), near Ostrovul Alb, a sacred spiritual center populated by Blajini. It is believed that at the beginning of time, Fârtatul (God) created beings such as: ogres, giants, humans, and Blajini. While ogres and giants perished, humans and Blajini survived. In terms of descriptive traits, Blajinii resemble humans - they are gentle, kind, faithful, and short in stature. It is said that Apa Sâmbetei (Saturday Water), or Apa Morților (Water of the Dead) springs from beneath the Tree of Life in Eden, circles the Earth either three, seven, or nine times, and then flows into the Whirlpool of Waters or the Whirlpool of the Earth. So, Apa Sâmbetei (Saturday Water) becomes a point of conjunction between Heaven and Hell. The Saturday Water and the Whirlpool of Waters are not ordinary bodies of water, but also aquatic spirits. It is believed that Blajinii, are direct descendants of Adam and Eve, celebrate the Easter of Blajini or the Easter of the Dead on the Monday following the Sunday of Thomas. Ancient ritual practices have survived to this day in various ethnographic regions of our country – wailing, ritual offerings, picnicking with traditional foods associated with the Easter holidays (for e.g., red or painted eggs, Easter cake, etc.). Ostrovul Alb where Blajinii dwell evokes either the spiritual center of Shambhala or paradisiacal islands whose inhabitants have access to eternal life. In the real world, a fold emerges that projects us into a mythical universe populated by Blajini. The real and the mythical planes interrelate, bringing to light primordial mythical beings that invite us to introspection.
