Supercapacitance and Hydrogen Production Potential of Bimetallic LaFeO 3 Nanocomposite: Synthesis, Structural, and Morphology

Abstract
In this study, LaFeO
3
nanocomposite was synthesized via the sol‐gel method to address the combined requirements of supercapacitor applications and clean hydrogen production. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by employing various recent analytical techniques including X‐ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy (EDX). The XRD analysis confirmed the orthorhombic perovskite framework of the LaFeO
3
. The electrochemical performance was assessed via cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The CV curves of La
2
O
3
, Fe
2
O
3
, and LaFeO
3
demonstrated symmetrical shapes even after a higher scan rate. The highly symmetrical curves at 5 mV s
−1
exhibited excellent stability and pseudocapacitive behavior. The CV curves of LaFeO
3
depicted maximum current response and high area that ensured its outstanding performance for supercapacitor application, demonstrating specific capacitance of 1589 F g
−1
at 5 mV s
−1
with energy density of 55.2 Wh kg
−1
. Similarly, EIS analysis of LaFeO
3
exhibited a lower charge transfer resistance, resulting in faster reaction kinetics compared to La
2
O
3
and Fe
2
O
3
. Conversely, linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) analysis was performed to determine HER performance. LaFeO
3
depicted over potential values of about 216 mV at 10 mA cm
−2
Similarly, the Tafel slope of LaFeO
3
was about 69 mV dec
−1
, which is significantly lower than pure nanocomposites, recommending faster charge transfer efficiency and reaction kinetics.
