Approximately 6.2 million people in Somalia are now in danger of starvation due to the scarcity of foodstuffs following the drought continues. In two consecutive days, in a region in Somalia about 110 people died of starvation. WHO says if hunger this time evenly across the country, this being the third in a famine during the last quarter century. In 2010 and 2012 famine killed 258 thousand people in Somalia. British diplomat who is a former UN special representative for Somalia Nicholas Kay warned of a surge in threat of famine in the Horn of Africa. He called for immediate action being taken to stop a potential humanitarian disaster. Kay said this week that hundreds of thousands of people in Somalia will die or be on the verge of death in May of this year if urgent action is not taken to address the threat of famine in Somalia.
