LA RISCOPERTA DE’ L’ORTOGRAFIA ITALIANA ET ALTRE OSSERVATIONI DELLA LINGUA DI ALTOBELLO GAGLIARO (1631)

Nell’ottica del più ambizioso progetto di riscoperta delle opere grammaticali del Seicento, trascurate dalla moderna letteratura scientifica, si inserisce il presente contributo, dedicato all’Ortografia italiana et altre osservationi della lingua di Altobello Gagliaro (1631). Oltre allo studio di una grammatica dimenticata e, quindi, alla ricostruzione della storia dell’opera e alla descrizione dei contenuti, l’articolo si propone di evidenziare alcune non trascurabili riflessioni di natura sintattica con cui l’autore, sovente, costella la riflessione metalinguistica. La sicura distinzione tra i concetti di periodo e membro, la frequenza con cui fa ricorso alle nozioni di dipendenza e reggenza, l’abbozzo di una rudimentale analisi del periodo e altre intuizioni, assieme all’impiego di una precisa terminologia tecnica, rendono l’opera meritevole di attenzione, permettendo di descrivere e conoscere un autore che sentì il bisogno di supportare le asserzioni sulla lingua con l’analisi di unità maggiori alla parola e che produsse riflessioni puntuali che testimoniano il perfezionamento teorico di quanto già acquisito nel secolo precedente.   The rediscovery of L'ortografia italiana et altre osservationi della lingua by Altobello Gagliaro (1631)   The present contribution, dedicated to Altobello Gagliaro’s Ortografia italiana et altre osservationi della lingua (1631), is part of the more ambitious project of rediscovering grammatical works of the 17th century that have been neglected by modern scholarly literature. In addition to the study of a forgotten grammar and, therefore, the reconstruction of the work’s history and the description of its contents, the article aims to highlight some not-inconsiderable reflections of a syntactic nature with which the author often punctuates his metalinguistic reflections. The clear distinction between the concepts of periodo and membro, the frequency with which he makes use of the notions of dependency and regency, the outline of a rudimentary analysis of propositions and other intuitions, together with the use of precise technical terminology, make the work worthy of attention, allowing us to describe and get to know an author who needed to support his assertions on language with the analysis of units greater than a single word and who produced precise reflections that bear witness to the theoretical refinement of what he had already acquired in the previous century.
