Causalism under Indeterminism

View through CrossRef
Abstract This chapter considers the possibility that our world may be indeterministic. It argues that the assumption of indeterminism gives rise to interesting new questions for causalists. This is due to the intriguing nature of indeterministic causation, which results in some important puzzles—especially for causalism about free agency. The chapter argues that this isn’t a problem for causalism but a reflection of the fact that control is a causal notion. Moreover, causalism is well equipped to address those puzzles in a way that no other theory can.
