The strategic resonance engine: Reframing SWOT for dynamic competitive advantage

View through CrossRef
Conventional Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analysis is essentially limited in volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) environments due to the static nature of the tool and the reactive nature of the conventional SWOT approach. The current study proposes the Strategic Resonance Engine (SRE) model, a revolutionary tool that reconfigures conventional SWOT components into a dynamic diagnostic that helps create asymmetric advantages. The SRE model reconfigures the conventional SWOT components into differentiating capabilities, strategic vulnerabilities, asymmetrical opportunities, and erosive forces of competitive advantages, with Critical Cross-Analysis (Strengths-Opportunities, Strengths-Threats, Weaknesses-Opportunities, Weaknesses-Threats) playing a crucial role in prescribing strategic recommendations. The SRE model is operationalized through the Dynamic Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats Intelligence Cycle, a dynamic, iterative four-phase model, and Strategic Guardrails to overcome the limitations of vagueness, inertia, biases, and execution failures in conventional SWOT analysis. The SRE model is grounded in the theoretical underpinnings of the Dynamic Capabilities and Resource-Based View (RBV) models, which have been validated through case studies. The SRE model is a living system that helps organizations sense, interpret, and reconfigure their capabilities to achieve strategic adaptation, capability realization, and the maintenance of competitive advantage by diagnosing and amplifying the resonance between their capabilities and the business environment.  Keywords: Strategic Resonance, Dynamic Capabilities, Asymmetric Advantage, Evolved SWOT, Strategic Adaptation, Competitive Strategy.
Title: The strategic resonance engine: Reframing SWOT for dynamic competitive advantage
