Contemporary Macedonian Turkish Literature and Ivo Andric: The Case of the Journal of Sesler

After the Balkan Wars, the physical ties between the Ottomans and Macedonia were largely severed. This situation continued from the establishment of the Republic of Turkey until the end of World War II while Macedonia's proximity to Istanbul ensures that the relations in the field of literature are strong, the development processes of Modern Turkish Literature are expected to be followed in the region. However, during the period when Turkish literature became Westernized, the turmoil in the region prevented a parallel literary process from taking place. The development of contemporary Macedonian Turkish literature begins after World War II. As part of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Macedonia was socialist until the country's declaration of independence in 1991. Socialism affects the literary environment as well as all spheres of life. Contemporary Macedonian Turkish Literature develops through the publishing activities in which the Turks in the region express themselves in the context of the principle of "Freedom of the Peoples" of socialism. Some aspects of the past and tradition are reflected in art as far as the current management approach allows. The first and second generations of contemporary Macedonian Turkish literature adhere to the understanding of socialist realism. The fact that literary activities in Turkey were followed by Turkish writers in Macedonia during this period was an important support point in shaping the Turkish literature of Contemporary Macedonia. Another of these points can be said to be Ivo Andric. The awarding of the Nobel Prize in Literature to Andric in 1961 had a positive impact on Turks in the Balkans in every aspect. Among the most important reasons for this is that Ivo Andric is from Yugoslavia and the award was given to the author largely because of his novel The Bridge on the Drina. The Bridge on the Drina is mainly about the period when the Balkans were under Ottoman rule. The fact that the novel has a content about the Ottoman presence in the region for five hundred years has attracted attention. After Ivo Andric received the Nobel Prize in Literature, it is possible to see his direct and indirect influences on the Turkish literature of Contemporary Macedonia in the journal Sesler, which started to be published in 1965. The fact that the first and second generation representatives of Contemporary Macedonian Turkish Literature are included in the journal makes it an exceptional position in the country in terms of ideas, art and literature. Purpose; After the award, to determine the influence of Ivo Andric on Contemporary Macedonian Turkish Literature through the journal Sesler and to open a space for future research in terms of comparative literature. In the study, which is a qualitative research, content analysis is considered as a method.
