Giaime Pintor, Leonello Vincenti e Teatro tedesco

In February 1941, through the mediation of Leone Traverso, German literature expert Giaime Pintor began a productive collaboration with the publisher Bompiani. He had already worked as an editorial consultant for Einaudi and agreed to work for Bompiani on two volumes in the “Pantheon” series, directed by Elio Vittorini. He then translated some texts for the anthology Germanica and assembled a “collection of plays and comedies from the origins to the present day”, titled Teatro tedesco. This essay analyzes the structure and critical principles of this anthology, as well as the human, commercial and political circumstances that led to the inclusion of certain authors and translators, or the exclusion of others.
