Noise Study Examples for Infrasound Stations
View through CrossRef
Recent developments of infrasound background noise models (Marty et al, 2021) and progress in the design of digitizers and microbarometers allow the implementation of accurate infrasound noise studies  when planning installation of new infrasound arrays or upgrading the existing ones. A repository of infrasound equipment self-noise data and infrasound background noise data referred  to the International Monitoring System (IMS) infrasound stations has been developed, and it is based on percentile calculations of the noise distribution. The presented noise study charts show the results of such studies at multiple IMS stations. The outcome  testifies  the need for revision of the IMS minimum requirements for infrasound stations specifications, with particular focus on the microbarometer self-noise, system (digitizer) noise and overall channel dynamic range.
