Studi Literatur: Pengembangan Sediaan Topikal Tea Tree Oil untuk Antijerawat
View through CrossRef
Abstract. Acne is a common chronic inflammatory skin condition, particularly affecting adolescents. Chemical-based topical treatments often cause side effects, prompting the need for safer natural alternatives. This study aims to review the effectiveness of tea tree oil (TTO) as an active ingredient in topical anti-acne formulations through a literature study. Data were collected from national and international journals discussing the pharmacological activity of TTO and its development in gel, emulgel, and lipid-based delivery systems. The review findings indicate that the main compound in TTO, terpinen-4-ol, exhibits antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antifungal properties against acne-causing microorganisms. Various formulations demonstrated physical stability, skin-friendly pH, and significant bacterial inhibition. Therefore, TTO is considered an effective and safe natural-based agent for topical acne treatment.
