Semiotics Analysis in the Short Film Title “Tilik” by Wahyu Agung Prasetyo

The theme of this research is social reality and representation of women's behavior, while the topic is a semiotic analysis of the interpretation of the meaning of the signs in the scene and the characteristics of the players. Nowadays, the presence of film during human life is increasingly important and has an equal role with other art media. Film or motion pictures is a complex social, psychological and aesthetic phenomenon, formed by a series of moving images filled with sound, then put together into a story. The beauty of the film can be seen from the way a director arranges the signs in each scene so that from these signs there is a relationship that has meaning as well as a message. Semiotics in the film is a science that examines signs in a context, namely scenarios, pictures, texts, music, and scenes. In this study, an analysis will be carried out using a qualitative description method to reveal the sign system in the short film Tilik, by Wahyu Agung Prasetyo. This film won the Maya Cup for the Selected Short Story Film category in 2018. The problem of this research is how to apply the sign function to the scene and the characteristics of the players who represent the behavior of mothers who like to gossip. The analysis in this study will use the semiotic theory of semiotic experts Charles Sanders Peirce, and Roland Barthes. This qualitative descriptive research is proposed, the target is to gain new knowledge in the short film entitled Tilik, about the value of beauty (aesthetics) which is built by constructing meanings and signs in each scene.
