Pattern of Dyslipidemia among Type 2 Diabetic Patients in a Tertiary Care Hospital
View through CrossRef
Diabetic dyslipidemia is a complex multidimensional abnormality, as it is frequently associated with other co-morbid risk factors. Pattern of dyslipidemia in diabetes may vary according to geographic location, ethnicity, dietary habits and socio-economic status of the population. This study aimed to determine the pattern of dyslipidemia among type 2 diabetic patients. This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in the Department of Biochemistry in collaboration with the Department of Endocrinology, Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College on 160 patients having type 2 diabetes in the age group of 30-60 years. The frequency of dys-lipidemia in study subjects was found 96.25%. Among the study subjects most common lipid abnormality was hypertriglyceridemia (80%), followed by low HDL-C (70%), high LDL-C (64.38%) and high TC (32.5%). Regarding pattern of dyslipidemia, the frequency of single dyslipidemia was 16.86% and mixed dyslipidemia was 79.38%. The most common isolated single parameter dyslipidemia was high TG (8.75%). Quadruple combination was the most common pattern (21.88%) among mixed dyslipidemia. High TG, high LDL-C and low HDL-C was most common (20%) among triple combination dyslipidemia. Regarding double combination, high TG and low HDL-C was most common (18.12%). Age, gender, hypertension, BMI, waist circumference, physical activity, fasting blood sugar and poor glycemic control were associated with different type of dyslipidemia. Based on the study findings, it can be concluded that dyslipidemia is highly prevalent among patients with T2DM. This study will help increase the awareness of healthcare professionals regarding dyslipidemia in diabetic patients. Early detection and prevention of dyslipidemia can avoid the risk for cardiovascular disorders in diabetic patients.
Title: Pattern of Dyslipidemia among Type 2 Diabetic Patients in a Tertiary Care Hospital
Description:
The frequency of dys-lipidemia in study subjects was found 96.
25%.
Among the study subjects most common lipid abnormality was hypertriglyceridemia (80%), followed by low HDL-C (70%), high LDL-C (64.
38%) and high TC (32.
5%).
Regarding pattern of dyslipidemia, the frequency of single dyslipidemia was 16.
86% and mixed dyslipidemia was 79.
38%.
The most common isolated single parameter dyslipidemia was high TG (8.
75%).
Quadruple combination was the most common pattern (21.
88%) among mixed dyslipidemia.
High TG, high LDL-C and low HDL-C was most common (20%) among triple combination dyslipidemia.
Regarding double combination, high TG and low HDL-C was most common (18.
12%).
