„To, co tak / to, co nie”. The Poetics of Enumeration and Negation: Traces of Wislawa Szymborska’s Poetry in Selected Poems by Teresa Soto

This article briefly reviews the history of translations of Wislawa Szymborska’s poetry into Spanish, to then reflect on the influence that the Polish Nobel Laureate had on the work of Spanish poet Teresa Soto, born in Oviedo in 1982. Her debut collection, Un poemario, for which Soto was awarded the Adonáis Prize in 2007, opens with the poem Imitación de Wislawa, foreshadowing an intertextual dialogue with the Polish poet. Her most recent collections, published in 2020, La silva and Crónicas de I. reveal the transformations of this inspiration, and at the same time a kind of rhetorical fidelity to Szymborska’s creative influence. In the analyses, I will focus primarily on enumeration and negation, understood as figures of the immensity of possibility, inclusion and the widening dimension of difference.
