Foundry Practice for Cast Irons
View through CrossRef
Abstract
This article discusses foundry practices that are critical to the successful production of iron castings including melting practices (selection of melting furnace, charge materials, molten metal treatment, and inoculation), alloying, gating and risering (feeding) systems, pouring practices, and in-plant quality control testing. The article reviews foundry practices for gray irons, ductile irons, compacted graphite irons, malleable irons, high-nickel ductile irons, high-silicon ductile irons, high-silicon gray irons, high-alloy white irons, nickel-chromium white irons, and high-chromium white irons.
