Viruddha Ahara Janya Mutrashmari (Renal Calculus): A Case Report On Ayurvedic Conservative Management With Clinical Outcomes

Background: Mutrashmari is one among the Ashta Mahagada described in Ayurveda and corresponds clinically to renal calculus or urolithiasis. Incompatible dietary practices (Viruddha Ahara) are considered to cause Tridosha Prakopa, Agnimandya, and Ama formation, ultimately resulting in pathological changes in the Mutravaha Srotas. The disease manifests with flank pain, dysuria, burning micturition, and urinary obstruction. Conservative Ayurvedic management aims at Ashmari Bhedana, Mutrala Karma, and alleviation of symptoms. Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of Ayurvedic management in a case of Viruddha Ahara Janya Mutrashmari and assess clinical outcomes. Materials and Methods: A single-case observational study was conducted in a 22-year-old female diagnosed with renal calculus presenting with Vrikka Shoola, Mutrakrichha, and Mutradaha. Detailed history revealed habitual intake of incompatible foods and inadequate water consumption. The patient was treated with Punarnavasava, Dashmoolarishta, Tablet Samashit, and Tablet Neeri along with dietary modifications. Clinical assessment was carried out before and after treatment. Results: Significant improvement was observed in flank pain, burning micturition, urinary frequency, dysuria, and sleep disturbances. No adverse effects were observed during therapy. Conclusion: Ayurvedic conservative management combined with correction of Viruddha Ahara provided marked symptomatic relief and improved quality of life in Mutrashmari.
