Hubungan Self-control dengan Celebrity Worship pada Mahasiswa Penggemar Stray Kids di Bandung

Abstract. Many young people are hysterical to see the action of Korean boy groups or girl groups. One of the boy groups that are currently being discussed is Stray Kids, they are at the top of the list for newcomer K-pop artists. As a student, they should be able to think well and act appropriately because they are considered adults. This is related to their self-control. If students have good self-control, then idolizing someone can be a motivation for their lecture activities. In fact, there are still many fans who experience celebrity worship. The purpose of this study was to obtain empirical data on the relationship between self-control and celebrity worship on students who are fans of Stray Kids in Bandung. The measuring instrument used in this study is the self-control tool developed by Averill to measure self-control and the Celebrity Attitude Scale (CAS) compiled by Maltby et al to measure celebrity worship. This research was conducted on 101 students who are fans of Stray Kids in the city of Bandung. Researchers used analytical techniques on the SPSS for windows application and obtained rs = 0.602 which indicates a fairly close positive relationship between self-control and celebrity worship. That is, the higher the self-control, the higher the celebrity worship owned by Stray Kids fan students in Bandung, and vice versa. Abstrak. Banyak anak muda histeris melihat aksi boygroup atau girlgroup Korea. Salah satu boygroup yang sedang ramai dibicarakan saat ini adalah Stray Kids, mereka menduduki urutan teratas untuk artis K-pop pendatang baru. Pada seorang mahasiswa, mereka seharusnya sudah mampu berpikir dengan baik dan bertindak dengan tepat karena sudah dianggap dewasa. Hal tersebut berkaitan dengan self-control yang dimilikinya. Apabila mahasiswa memiliki self-control yang baik, maka mengidolakan seseorang bisa saja menjadi sebuah motivasi untuk kegiatan perkuliahannya. Nyatanya, masih banyak penggemar yang mengalami celebrity worship atau pemujaan selebriti. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendapatkan data empiris mengenai hubungan self-control dengan celebrity worship pada mahasiswa penggemar Stray Kids di Kota Bandung. Alat ukur yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah alat ukur self-control yang disusun oleh Averill untuk mengukur self-control dan Celebrity Attitude Scale (CAS) yang disusun oleh Maltby dkk untuk mengukur celebrity worship. Penelitian ini dilakukan kepada 101 orang mahasiswa penggemar Stray Kids di Kota Bandung. Peneliti menggunakan teknik analisis pada aplikasi SPSS for windows dan didapatkan rs = 0.602 yang menunjukkan adanya hubungan positif yang cukup erat antara self-control dengan celebrity worship. Artinya, semakin tinggi self-control maka semakin tinggi pula celebrity worship yang dimiliki oleh mahasiswa penggemar Stray Kids di Kota Bandung, begitupun sebaliknya.
