Ilorin Emirate and Government Land Policy in Kwara State, Nigeria

The paper focuses on the Ilorin Emirate and government land policy in Kwara state, Nigeria. It examined the position of Nigeria Land Use Act and Kwara State Legal Notice of 2009, how it affected one hundred and sixteen places in the Emirate and three hundred and sixty three communities in Kwara State. Conflict analysis was used as method for the research in explaining the Land Use Act and Kwara State Legal Notice and the response of the Emirate Communities. Searchlight also beamed on Ilorin Emirate and Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) an apolitical socio-cultural organisation towards the Land Policy. The paper also examined the economic, socio-cultural, religious, and educational impact of the policy on Ilorin Emirate. Based on the presentations it recommended that the state government should create peace and harmonious relationship between it and the people of the Ilorin Emirate and the Kwarans through adequate interactions and consultations with the different stakeholders.
