The effect of Stirrups with Different Materials for on Torsion Behavior of Reinforced Concrete Beams Torsion Behavior

View through CrossRef
Abstract--The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of the different materials of transverse reinforcement (stirrups) (steel bars, GFRP bars and steel wire ropes) on the torsion behavior of reinforced concrete beams. The experimental study includes casting and testing of nine reinforced concrete beams specimens. All specimens have the same dimensions (1500 mm in length and 200 mm * 200 mm in cross section). The tested beams are divided into three groups according to the material type used as a stirrup reinforcement. For each group, three distances between the stirrups are adopted (100 , 200 ,300)mm. The work finding indicated that the shear reinforcement made using the steel bars have an increase in the torsion ultimate load by (14%, 3%, 3%) compared to specimens have stirrups of the steel wire rope, and by a ratios of (33%, 28%, 21 %) compared to specimens have e GFRP stirrups with spacing (100, 200, 300) mm respectively. Keyword--torsion of reinforced concrete beam, transverse reinforcement, different distances between the stirrups, steel wire ropes stirrups, GFRP bars stirrups, steel bars stirrups.
