Het Federaal Kenniscentrum voor de Gezondheidszorg (KCE) heeft een evaluatie uitgevoerd van het klinisch nut en de kost van IMRT (intensiteitsgemoduleerde radiotherapie) voor de behandeling van kanker van hoofd en hals, prostaatkanker en borstkanker. Deze complexe techniek laat toe meer gericht te bestralen, wat belangrijk kan zijn als tumoren zich naast stralingsgevoelige organen bevinden. De positieve en negatieve effecten op lange termijn zijn onvoldoende gekend. De kosteneffectiviteit van de behandeling is onbekend. Daartegenover staat een jaarlijkse meerkost tot 20 miljoen euro.
