Herencia vanguardista: Isidora Aguirre y su red de precursoras desde <i>Ocho cuentos</i> hasta <i>Wai-Kii</i>

Before establishing herself as a playwright, Isidora Aguirre delved into writing Ocho cuentos (1938) at the request of Marta Brunet. A decade later, she presented her first novel, Wai-kii (1948), also aimed at a children's audience, but with a special coincidence: the same publishing house that welcomed her had published Marcela Paz's Papelucho (1947) a year earlier. The encounter with these two authors, Brunet and Paz, was facilitated by her mother, the painter María Tupper Huneeus, who not only acted as a hostess in a salon imbued with avant-garde, but also participated in spiritualist sessions with a group of women known as Grupo 7. These women, pivotal in Aguirre's life, foreshadowed her artistic path, acting harmoniously as precursors to her innovative poetics, following the exercise proposed by Jorge Luis Borges. This essay aims to provide an enlightening reading of the first steps in the career of Isidora Aguirre Tupper, focusing specifically on her works published between 1938 and 1948, that is, before her notable foray into playwriting.
