The raman and infrared spectra of solid TeCl4 AND SeCl4

View through CrossRef
AbstractThe Raman and infrared spectra of solid TeCl4 and SeCl4 are presented. On the basis of an ionic formulation (MCl3+ and Cl− ions) an assignment of the stretching frequencies of the MCl3+‐ion (with nearly C3v symmetry) is given. The results of a recently published X‐ray analysis of solid TeCl4 made this assignment more detailed. Only suggestions could be made as to the assignment of the bending frequencies of the cations.
