11.G. Skills building seminar: The Future is Core, Hackathon: Next-Gen Professionals Sustaining the ASPHER Core Curriculum Programme

Abstract Background The ASPHER Core Curriculum for Public Health (CCP) is a landmark framework for shaping competent, responsive public health professionals. Yet, its continued relevance depends on the active engagement of those who will carry it forward - early career professionals (ECPs) in both public health academia and practice. This workshop responds to a critical need: to involve ECPs not only as recipients of education but as co-creators of its future. By engaging ECPs voices, we aim to ensure the CCP evolves in step with public health realities and professional pathways. Objectives • To introduce early career professionals to the CCP as a foundational tool for public health learning and practice; • To build participants’ confidence and skills in curriculum co-creation, review, and adaptation; • To generate youth-led ideas for evolving the CCP to meet emerging challenges and professional demands; • To cultivate a cross-generational dialogue on the future of public health education in Europe and beyond. Added value This workshop offers a unique space for capacity-building and advocacy among ECPs, a group often underrepresented in curriculum development. Participants will not only engage with the CCP but actively shape its trajectory by identifying new thematic priorities and pedagogical innovations. The workshop will culminate in a “Youth Vision for the Future of the CCP,” vision Statement offering ASPHER and its partners a fresh, community-driven resource to support ongoing curricular evolution. Coherence The workshop will open with brief inputs from early career professionals who have interacted with the CCP in their education or as junior faculty members. Their stories will ground the session in real-world relevance. This will be followed by interactive, team-based tasks where participants critique, adapt, and innovate on the CCP from a youth perspective. The entire structure reinforces the workshop's aim of linking youth engagement with CCP sustainability. Format The session will begin with a rapid panel discussion by 5 ECPs, focused on how the CCP intersects with their training, practice, and aspirations. Participants will then break into four teams to engage in an interactive design-thinking task based on a CCP domain: “Hack the CCP.” Each team will identify gaps or future-facing priorities (e.g., digital skills, equity, AI, mental wellbeing), tools needed and propose additions or updates to the CCP. Results will be shared in plenary like discussion, with space for cross-group dialogue and collective reflection. The session will close with key messages which will guide the creation of a ECP Vision Statement to be shared with ASPHER CCP for updated edition.
