Abstract
Clues to Ankh-Hap’s travels were discovered in the packing material wedged around his mummy. This led to an investigation of Henry Augustus Ward, proprietor of Ward’s Scientific Establishment in Rochester, New York. In the nineteenth century, Ward visited the mummy-pits of Egypt, where he collected mummified remains and coffins for his emporium. Evidence of his active role in the mummy trade was found among the letters, diaries, inventories, and company documents now archived at the University of Rochester. Among the mummies sold by Ward was Pahat and presumably Ankh-Hap as well. Ward stocked mummy parts and mummy cloth that may have been used to make Frankenmummies.
