An Ethnomathematical Exploration of the Tugu Digulis Roundabout in Pontianak City

Mathematical concepts are often reflected in various aspects of community life, including  historical buildings. Ethnomathematics is an approach that examines the unique ways in which a community abstracts rea-life experiences related to mathematics, both through cultural practices and cultural objects. One of the buildings that has historical value is the Tugu Digulis, which is located at the roundabout on Jalan Ahmad Yani Pontianak City. This study aims to explore the ethnomathematical elements found at the Tugu Digulis Roundabout in Pontianak City. The method used in this study is a qualitative method with an exploratory approach. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, literature review, and documentation. The data analysis followed Miles et al.'s interactive model, encompassing data collection, data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study reveal the presence of several mathematical elements at the Tugu Digulis Roundabout in Pontianak City, especially those related to geometric concepts such as circles, cylinders, transformational geometry (dilation and rotation), divisibility, and ellipses. These results demonstrate that Tugu Digulis not only has historical value, but also contains mathematical concepts that can be used as a source of learning mathematics.
