Penyajian Tari Ula-Ula Lembing di Kabupaten Aceh Tamiang

The Ula-Ula Lembing dance is a traditional dance originating from Aceh Tamiang Regency. Performances of this dance are currently rare, both within Aceh Tamiang Regency and across Aceh as a whole. This study aims to describe the Ula-Ula Lembing dance in terms of its history, movement variations, and lyrics. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method. Data collection techniques were conducted through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis utilized triangulation, which encompasses data display, verification, and drawing conclusions. The research results indicate that the Ula-Ula Lembing dance was originally performed during weddings and the coronation of Tuan Muda as the King of Tamiang. This dance depicts the story of a wandering young man who faces obstacles in search of his dream princess. The presentation of the Ula-Ula Lembing dance consists of five acts, namely Patam-Patam Pembuka, Tunda Deting, Niti Batang, Puku-Puku Pangku, and Patam-Patam Penutup. The dance features various movements, including the respectful greeting (salam penghormatan), silat movements, Ula-Ula Lembing movements, Jud kedidi movements, kayoh maida kayoh movements, puku-puku pangke movements, rencah tebang movements, and the closing greeting (salam penutup). The performance utilizes sung poetry accompanied by musical instruments such as the accordion, violin, and Malay drum (gendang Melayu). This dance is performed by a group of 10 to 16 female dancers.
