“Logistics Sinhalen”- the first ever textbook written in Sinhala<br><br>Nearly two decades have passed after Logistics has been established in Sri Lanka as a tertiary education subject. As subject was taught in English at the university level there was no urgent need for a Sinhala textbook as many logistics and Transport books are available in English medium. This subject was first entered to the school curriculum in 2017 and I started writing this book about a year later primarily to assist school children and teachers. However, based on the strategic need of a vertical integration between school, university, and industry, I subsequently extended the horizon to cover its contents to suit to the needs at university level as well as for the applications pertaining to the industry. It is expected that practitioners may keep this as a manual. The contents directly related to the school syllabi has been highlighted for easy reference by school children. <br><br>The book introduces the Sinhala term for logistics as approved by the Department of Official Languages, Sri Lanka. “Logistics Sinhalen” book introduces two new theories in transportation namely, Integrated Transport Demand Theory (ITDT) and Integrated Dynamic Transport Decision Theory (IDTD).<br><br>The book consists 434 pages, printed on art paper, full colour with section binding. It comes with 181 graphical illustrations and 17 tables and colourfully displayed to attract wider spectrum of readers. The cover page and most of pictures in the books are designed by an award-winning artist (a student of Good Shepard Convent Colombo). It has four chapters namely, Logistics Fundamental; Transport; Warehousing, and inventory management; and Logistics trends. Each chapter has different colour theme for easy reference. It also has an index that provides nearly 1000 Sinhala words and its corresponding English term. The Index is structured in the English alphabet especially for the for the benefit of industry practitioners. The book introduces many new concepts and acronyms including, Eight Logistics Fundamentals (O2V) ; Compact Logistics Framework (IPO); Customs Harmonized Code Nomenclature Process Flow Chart (HSFC); The nine “P” s of Marketing in Logistics and Transport Service (9 P); Customer Affordable Price (CAT); Fundamentals of Transport (PLIM); Transport Mode Appraisal Model (4M); Macro Factors of Transport Efficiency (PESTEC - GEL); Dynamic Transport Management System (DTMS); SLC Warehousing Fundamentals (SLC); Dynamic Integrated Supply Network (DISN); and Virtual Container Yard (VCY). <br><br>“Logistics Sinhalen” book has been endorsed by many government and private sector instructions including, Ministry of Transport; Ministry of Education; Ministry of Ports and Shipping; Department of Examinations; Sri Lanka Customs: Merchant Shipping Secretariate; National Library and Documentation Services Board: Educational Publications Department; Dalian Maritime University; Sri Lanka Port Authority, Board of Investment of Sri Lanka; The Ceylon Chamber if Commerce; Ceylon Association of Shipping Agents; Sri Lanka Vessel Operators Association; Institute of Chartered Ship Brokers; The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport; Sri Lanka Society of Transport and Logistics; Sri Lanka Shippers Council; and Sri Lanka Logistics and Freight Forwarders Association.<br><br>This book has obtained the Licence from the Ministry of Education to use in school libraries as per the Gazette notification dated 1952.02.29. National Library of Sri Lanka has issued an endorsement licence under the project of Libraries in Sri Lanka. <br>
