Russian historiography of pilgrimage: Holy Land through the ages

The article analyzes the degree of development of pilgrimage as a phenomenon in Russian pre-revolutionary, Soviet and modern historiography. The author deliberately resorts to the model of Palestinian centrism, focusing on the study of the issue of primary pilgrimages to the Holy Land. The experience of Russian historiography in the study of pilgrimage has more than two hundred years of chronological period, contains rich material not only for the study of pilgrimage as a phenomenon, but also for the analysis of a spectrum of opinions. The study is carried out in a comparative manner and based on the study of national scientific experience, including the characterization of the first publications on the history of Russian pilgrimage, which are more source-based in nature due to their genre - notes of pilgrims, travelogues. When using historical-genetic, comparative-historical, as well as interdisciplinary approaches, the author conducts a systematic study of the Russian historiography of pilgrimage. The research methodology takes into account its specifics of historiography, which a priori turns each studied nomenclature into a source. The scientific novelty of the work lies in representative concepts, in an attempt to study and generalize at the meta-level the experience of domestic pilgrimage. The author deliberately gives a detailed analysis of the scientific works of members of the Crimean regional branch of IOPS for several reasons: novelty of approaches and filling scientific gaps, frequent use by researchers of the diachronous approach, specific research contribution and a rich source base of research, high scientific significance. Modern Russian historiography of pilgrimage to the Holy Land is a dynamically developing scientific direction, with signs of methodological pluralism, expanding the subject field and deepening analysis. The work is useful to everyone interested in the history of Christianity, pilgrimage. It has a practical focus, being useful to people involved in the organization of travel and the formation of logistics for religious tourism routes.
