Con gran pesar lamentamos el fallecimiento del Dr. Ralph L. Sacco el día 17 de enero del presente año. Dr. Sacco ocupaba el cargo de profesor y presidente del Departamento de Neurología de la Universidad de Miami Miller School of Medicine, y era un miembro muy respetado y querido por la comunidad neurocientífica internacional. Dr. Sacco fue un neurólogo especializado en neurología vascular cuyo liderazgo ayudó a consolidar la reputación del Departamento de Neurología de la Universidad de Miami como un centro de excelencia en la investigación científica y la educación y entrenamiento de nuevos neurólogos, así como un pilar fundamental en la comunidad local para el tratamiento de enfermedades cerebrovasculares. Además de ser presidente del Departamento de Neurología, ocupó los cargos de profesor de ciencias de la salud pública, genética humana y neurocirugía; jefe de neurología del Jackson Memorial Hospital, director ejecutivo del Evelyn F. McKnight Brain Institute enfocado en el avance de la investigación en deterioro cognitivo, y codirector e investigador principal del Miami Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI).
