La domination, une affaire de style

Fariba Adekhah, dans ses travaux sur l’ethos chevaleresque (javânmardi) et les pratiques de bienfaisance en Iran a insisté sur le concept de style d’action, en récusant toute interprétation culturaliste anhistorique et en faisant écho aux écrits de Peter Brown et Paul Veyne consacrés à l’Antiquité gréco-romaine. Le concept est heuristique pour mieux comprendre la domination politique dans son abstraction discursive, culturelle, matérielle et gestuelle. Mais un style d’échanges sociaux n’est jamais univoque ; il est d’ordre énonciatif et donne lieu à des performances singulières, individuelles ou collectives. De ce fait il n’absorbe pas la totalité d’une société et laisse place à des lignes de fuite qui sont au coeur de l’ambivalence de la domination. Domination, a Matter of Style. As a result, it does not absorb the totality of a society and leaves room for vanishing lines that are at the heart of the ambivalence of domination.
