Aktivitas Antibakteri Nanogel Asam Salisilat

Abstract. Acne vulgaris is a common skin disorder, particularly among adolescents, with Cutibacterium acnes being one of its primary bacterial triggers. While salicylic acid has been widely used as an anti-acne agent, its formulation in alginate-based nanogel form remains underexplored. This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial activity and skin irritation potential of an alginate-based nanogel containing salicylic acid against C. acnes. The nanogel was prepared using the inverse emulsification method with salicylic acid concentrations of 0.5% and 1%. Antibacterial activity was assessed using the Total Plate Count (TPC) method. The results showed that the formulation containing 1% salicylic acid (F3) exhibited the highest antibacterial efficacy against C. acnes, with an inhibition percentage of 85.31%. Therefore, the alginate-based salicylic acid nanogel is considered safe for skin use and effective as an anti-acne treatment.

Abstrak. Acne vulgaris merupakan gangguan kulit yang sering terjadi, terutama pada remaja, yang menjadi salah satu pemicunya adalah bakteri Cutibacterium acnes. Penggunaan asam salisilat sebagai agen anti jerawat sudah banyak diterapkan, namun formulasi dalam bentuk nanogel berbasis alginat belum banyak diteliti. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan aktivitas antibakteri dan potensi iritasi kulit dari sediaan nanogel berbasis alginat yang mengandung asam salisilat terhadap Cutibacterium acnes. Nanogel diformulasikan menggunakan metode invers emulsifikasi dengan konsentrasi asam salisilat 0,5% dan 1%. Evaluasi antibakteri dilakukan melalui metode Angka Lempeng Total (ALT). Hasil uji menunjukkan bahwa formulasi dengan konsentrasi 1% asam salisilat (F3) memiliki efektivitas antibakteri tertinggi terhadap C. acnes, dengan persen inhibisi (85,31%). Nanogel asam salisilat berbasis alginat aman digunakan pada kulit dan efektif sebagai antijerawat.
