THE LINGUISTIC LANDSCAPE OF HOTEL AND RESTAURANT IN JIMBARAN

This study examines the linguistic landscape of hotels and restaurants in the Jimbaran area. This research aims to describe the language distribution on hotel and restaurant signboards in Jimbaran and to describe the types of information written on these signboards. This research employs a qualitative approach. The theoretical framework used in this study is based on the theory of Landry and Bourhis, which defines the concept of linguistic landscape and analyzes the languages used in signboards. The subjects of this study consist of 100 photographs of hotel and restaurant signboards in Jimbaran, which are categorized into three types: monolingual, bilingual, and multilingual. The findings reveal that several languages are used on the signboards, including Balinese, Indonesian, English, and Chinese. English is the most dominant language across all categories, appearing in 57 monolingual signboards, 30 bilingual signboards, and 4 multilingual signboards. The study also identifies ten types of information written on the hotel and restaurant signboards in Jimbaran: (1) type of accommodation (hotel or restaurant) found on 29 signboards, (2) facility information on 15 signboards, (3) contact information on 7 signboards, (4) place names on 99 signboards, (5) opening hours on 9 signboards, (6) food and beverage offerings on 25 signboards, (7) availability of discount on 3 signboards, (8)jargons on 11 signboards, and (9) price information on 2 signboards. Among these, the most frequently written type of information is the name of the place, which appears on 99 signboards.
