Fragment of a Sculpted Colonnette
View through Harvard Museums
Fragment of a marble colonnette decorated in relief. Stylized deer with antlers stand on a narrow ground line, either looking ahead and in full profile, or turning their heads in a three-quarter pose to look behind them. Trees, boulders, and a large cross fill the spaces between the deer. A narrow, rounded band separates this section of the colonnette from one (and perhaps several more) above, which is now missing. The surface of this piece is heavily weathered.
