Notes on additional records of coral reef Caridean shrimps from Lakshadweep waters

View through CrossRef
The study deals with the caridean shrimp collections from the Lakshadweep waters. Sampling was mostly by SCUBA diving, snorkelling, and hand-picking from 2020 through 2022. We obtained a total of 11 species, of which Pontonides ankeri, Leander tenuicornis, Jocaste japonica, Coralliocaris junckeri, Automate dolichognatha and Alpheus parvimaculatus are new to Indian waters and other 5 species are new to Lakshadweep waters. Most of the species recorded in this study were collected from the depth range of 0-3 m, however Pontonides ankeri was collected from a depth range of 15-20m. With these additions, the known diversity of Caridean shrimps from Lakshadweep waters has increased to 87 species. There is still considerable scope for additional research on marine carideans in Lakshadweep waters, and many species likely remain to be discovered.
