Cevat Fehmi Başkut’un Valde Sultanın Gerdanlığı Romanında Polisiye Kurgu

Cevat Fehmi Başkut worked as a reporter in various newspapers between 1928-1963. In the period of 1942-1970, he wrote many theater plays that dealt with current issues and held up a mirror to the society. The author also has a few novels; including the Female Lion, the Woman Loves Once, and Valde Sultanın Gerdanlığı. Among these, the author’s novel Valde Sultanın Gerdanlığı, published in 1954, is a detective novel. The main purpose of this study is to examine the novel Valde Sultanın Neck in terms of the fictional features of the detective genre. In this context, it has been determined whether the fictional characteristics of the detective novel are included in the novel in question and whether these characteristics are used successfully. The study is important in that C. Fehmi Başkut's only detective novel, Valde Sultanın Gerdanlığı, is examined independently of his theater works. A qualitative research design was used for the novel Valde Sultanın Gerdanlığı. In this context, the data was collected through document review and examined using the descriptive analysis method. The descriptive analysis stages of the novel were carried out according to the determined themes and various conclusions were reached regarding the fictional characteristics of the novel examined in relation to the subheadings. It was concluded that the beginning, development and conclusion of the novel examined according to the themes were successfully organized according to detective fiction and were constructed according to the characteristics of the classic “Who is the Murderer?” novel.
