Sevan Hydrobiological Station: 100 years of discoveries and achievements

The article is devoted to the 100-th anniversary of the Sevan Lake Station, later Sevan Hydrobiological Station of the Institute of Hydroecology and Ichthyology of the Academy of Sciences of Armenia and later of the Scientific Center of Zoology and Hydroecology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia. The focus of the research is on the largest lake in the Republic of Armenia and Transcaucasia as a whole -Lake Sevan and its ecosystem. The authors analyze the causes of the environmental problems of Lake Sevan, modern difficulties, overcoming negative consequences. They show the development and continuity of scientific research and the contribution of outstanding scientists to the study of Lake Sevan. Examples of Russian-Armenian scientific cooperation in the modern period are given. The contribution of the Southern Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Papanin Institute for Biology of Inland Waters of the Russian Academy of Sciences to the study of Lake Sevan at the present time is shown.
