Abstract
The word “Pentecost,” from the Greek,

(meaning “the 50th day”) is derived from the Greek translation of the Old Testament for the Jewish “Feast of Weeks” (also called Feast of Harvest and Feast of First Fruits). It followed the last day of the seven weeks reckoned from “the morrow of the Sabbath” (Lev. 23:5–6, 11, 15, 16). It was one of the major three Jewish pilgrim festivals (Passover, Pentecost, and the Feast of Tabernacle). Pentecost was celebrated on the 50th day after the Passover. And since the Feast of Passover fell on the 15th of Nisan (which was around the middle of April), the Feast of Pentecost thus fell on the 6th day of Sivan (which was possibly the first week in June).
