View through Europeana Collections
A sketch of a bridge crossing the River Brent on
Brent Street, in the manor of Hendon. The village of Hendon is
mentioned in Domesday Book as Handone, and at that time belonged to
Westminster Abbey. Brent Street was an early hamlet but now is a
shopping street. The River Brent flows in a southerly direction
from what is now the Brent Reservoir at Welsh Harp, through Neasden
to the Thames at Brentford. It is thought that this bridge was
built in the mid 18th century.
