Endoscopic and Histopathological Findings among Dyspepsia Patients at Bangli General Hospital, Bali
View through CrossRef
Background: Dyspepsia is among the most frequently encountered gastrointestinal complaints in clinical practice. Although endoscopic findings in patients with dyspepsia have been widely reported in Indonesia, studies describing both endoscopic and histopathological findings from the same patient population remain limited. This study described the endoscopic and histopathological profiles of dyspepsia patients treated at RSUD Bangli, Bali. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted using secondary data from the medical records of dyspepsia patients who underwent upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and histopathological examination at the Internal Medicine Clinic of Bangli General Hospital, Bali, from January 2023 to December 2024. All eligible medical records identified during the study period were included in the analysis. Data were summarized descriptively and presented as frequencies and percentages. Results: Sixty-seven patients met the study criteria. The largest age group was 41–50 years (26.87%), and males accounted for a slightly higher proportion of cases (50.75%). Erosive gastritis was the predominant endoscopic finding (76.12%). All cases were classified as organic dyspepsia. Histopathological examinations most frequently demonstrated chronic superficial gastritis (79.10%), followed by chronic active gastritis (19.40%) and chronic superficial gastritis with intestinal metaplasia (1.49%). No evidence of Helicobacter pylori infection was identified in the specimens examined. Conclusion: Dyspepsia cases at Bangli General Hospital were predominantly observed among middle-aged adults, with a slight male predominance. Erosive gastritis was the most common endoscopic abnormality, while chronic superficial gastritis represented the principal histopathological finding. No H. pylori infection was detected in this cohort.
