Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptors

View through CrossRef
AbstractNicotinic acetylcholine receptors are receptors for the neurotransmitter acetylcholine in which binding of acetylcholine triggers the opening of a transmembrane channel through the centre of the receptor protein. Nicotinic receptors are part of a gene superfamily of transmitter gated ion channels that includes receptors for glycine and gamma amino butyric acid. Nicotinic receptors are distinct from muscarinic acetylcholine receptors, which are part of a gene superfamily of metabotropic G‐protein linked receptors.
