L’article investiga el naixement i construcció del mite ancestral de Prometeu i passa tot seguit a analitzar el procés seguit per Eugeni d’Ors per a reescriure’l en la seua obra teatral El nou Prometeu encadenat (1920). Amb l’ajuda de la metodologia proposada per Genette a Palimpsestes. la littérature au second degré (1982), més les aportacions d’uns altres estudiosos, com ara Riffaterre, l’article mostra totes les operacions hipertextuals que efectua Ors per a reescriure el Prometeu encadenat d’Èsquil. Finalment l’últim punt és dedicat a explicar el context de creació de l’obra i les implicacions biogràfiques i polítiques.
