COMPARATIVE RESISTANCE OF SELECTED WHEAT VARIETIES TO TROGODERMA GRANARIUM EVERTS

View through CrossRef
Triticum aestivum is the most important cultivated crop in Indian farming. Compared with other grains, it is relatively safer from insect pests during standing crop, but in storage state, it is heavily damaged due to various stored grain pests. Trogoderma granarium Everts (Khapra beetle) is the most severe critical pest. The relative resistance of 17 genotypes of wheat grains was evaluated through no-choice progeny tests under the uniform state of temperature, relative humidity, and wheat grain moisture. Investigation resulted in the identification of resistance to T. granarium, including the most resistant strains identified were D.B.W. 17, P.B.W. 502, P.B.W. 343, P.B.W. 373, W.H. 542, D.B.W. 303, W.H. 533, P.B.W.226, and U.P. 2382 with infestation ranging between 8.0 and 12.33 beetles/20 grains. These lines could be utilized in further breeding programs.. KEYWORDS :Genotypes, Plant breeding, Resistance, Trogoderma granarium, Wheat
