New discoveries on geological and archaeological heritages in Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark

Since its designation as a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2020, Dak Nong Geopark has remained a vibrant hub for scientific inquiry and interdisciplinary research. These efforts have been undertaken through both institutional research projects at various administrative levels and independent scholarly initiatives. As a result, numerous significant discoveries have been made, particularly in the areas of geoheritage and prehistoric archaeology across the districts of Cu Jut, Krong No, and Dak G’Long. These findings are of considerable importance, both academically and practically. From a scientific perspective, they provide robust evidence that enhances our understanding of the region’s geological and socio-cultural evolution. Practically, they enrich the Geopark’s repository of heritage resources and tourism products, thereby contributing to heritage conservation, enhancing heritage interpretation to tourists, and promoting the effective and sustainable dissemination of its values. This paper provides an overview of the newly identified geological and archaeological heritage sites in Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark, offering recommendations for future research directions that aim to advance sustainable heritage management, conservation, and development.
