Apropriação e deveres em Opisanie swiata, de Veronica Stigger

This academic paper aims to present the results obtained from the research carried out during the scientific initiation, which aimed to investigate the terms "uncreative writing" and "appropriation" in Brazilian literature. The term "uncreative writing," coined by researchers Goldsmith and Perloff, emerged in the United States amid an artistic scenario that overemphasizes originality. In this context, uncreative writing would be the commitment made by certain literary works to conceptual writing, which means working with the appropriation of already existing texts. The procedure of appropriation is not new and was present in some avant-garde movements like surrealism and dadaism, but in the contemporary scene, it takes on new forms and perspectives. In Pós-produção: como a arte reprograma o mundo contemporâneo, Nicolas Bourriaud states that the appropriation procedure, which consists of selecting and recontextualizing diverse materials, is characteristic of contemporary artistic works. Based on this theoretical perspective, the research analyzed the book Opisanie swiata by Veronica Stigger in order to understand if and how the work can be thought of as uncreative writing, considering the appropriation process present in the book. It was concluded that the appropriations made by the author have distinct natures. In Opisanie swiata, the appropriations got new effects when recontextualized, and the diverse sources are arranged in a way that assumes a central role in the narrative, which dialogues with Brazilian modernism, coming closer to the propositions that characterize postproduction.
